Don't Tell Me Our Youth is Running Out

Friday Afternoon Tune: Youth by Foxes
Foxes is the alias for 22 year-old Southampton-born singer songwriter Louisa Rose Allen. Now based in London and gaining momentum on her first European tour, this young lady is one to listen out for.

Ben Howard's Kingdom

This week I discovered the soul-soothing style of 25 year-old singer songwriter Ben Howard. Already causing a stir across the UK and Europe, this young Brit boasts an enviable command of the guitar, delicate lyrics and a voice like honey. Last year Island Records introduced Howard's debut album Every Kingdom to the world saying: "He brings freshness to the form, gives it lustre, making it all seem brand new even as his songs have about them a quality of wisdom and a rootsy authenticity as old as the hills."

And they were right. Every Kingdom is all I need.

Inspired by Nature

The 2013 LFW Ready-To-Wear collections that really sent my heart aflutter were those combining exotic animal prints and floral textures. Erdem contrasted intricate lace with snakeskin in a collection inspired by the work of Zenna Henderson, one of the first female science fiction writers.

Preen by Thornton Bregazzi showed at London's Natural History Museum, an appropriate setting for their collection which took deep inspiration from the natural. Not dissimilar to Erdem, the design duo showcased a collage of reptilian and floral patchwork, however the lines were edgier. Between the two collections I think we find something for every occasion.

Red Red Wine

Deep red tones were the stand out for me at yesterday's Burberry Prorsum Spring 2013 Ready-To-Wear show in London. Crisp whites teamed with wine coloured lips and accessories served as a prelude to the drool-inducing cherry red bustier trench (pictured second). The piece represents designer Christopher Bailey's perfect fusion of classic British glamour and practicality. The collection will be available to purchase online in five days.

Anna Dello Russo for H&M

Japanese Vogue's eccentric editor at large Anna Dello Russo has designed an accessories collection for H&M. The collection will be in stores from October and to celebrate its imminent release Dello Russo stars in her very own hilarious Eurotrash pop video; Fashion Shower.

p.s. Dello Russo is FIFTY. Respect.

NYFW Spring RTW 2013

Here is a round-up of my favourite runway looks from Mercedez Benz New York Fashion Week so far. Starting with Zac Posen who, for me, stole the show with his classically smart, feminine ensembles.

Christian Siriano rocked some serious blues and some serious shoes.

In her LA Confidential inspired collection, Jill Stuart turned out some floral applique which will never stop being ok with me...

Finally, crowd favourite Alexander Wang placed all emphasis on form.

Tyrian Purple

Anthropologie has been experimenting with natural dyes whilst creating their iconic window displays. This year's summer displays featured larger than life paper flowers, the visual appeal only intensified by careful blends of all natural colour.

Natural dyes have been used since ancient times and may be derived from countless colour rich sources including beetroot, pomegranate and saffron. Rare luxurious colours such as Tyrian purple, found only in certain species of sea snail, were particularly coveted during the time of the Roman Empire that subsequently placed a strict monopoly on their use.

This method of dyeing not only allows for artists and textile makers to work with a subtler range of colours, it provides an environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic dyes.
